Although the press is restricted from reporting, the public is unable to observe, and deputies do not always attend in full numbers, the approval rate for personnel decisions remains consistently at 100%.
Following the timeline: After more than two days of proceedings, the first session of the 16th National Assembly concluded its personnel decisions, with every position receiving 100% approval. Specifically:
- Trần Thanh Mẫn was re-elected as Chairman of the National Assembly, with 491 out of 491 attending deputies voting in favor.
- The Vice Chairpersons of the National Assembly were elected with 496 out of 496 attending deputies voting in favor.
- State Auditor General Nguyễn Hữu Nghĩa was elected with 485 out of 485 attending deputies voting in favor
- Tô Lâm was elected as President with 495 out of 495 attending deputies voting in favor.
- Lê Minh Hưng was elected as Prime Minister with 492 out of 492 attending deputies voting in favor.
- Nguyễn Văn Quảng was re-elected as Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, with 496 out of 496 attending deputies voting in favor.
- Nguyễn Huy Tiến was re-elected as Procurator General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, with 474 out of 474 attending deputies voting in favor.
Significantly, the first session of the 16th National Assembly was broadcast live only for the opening, closing, and oath-taking ceremonies. The public could not follow the full process of electing the new leadership.
Looking back: While senior leadership positions in the previous term were similarly approved with 100% support across all roles, such unanimous approval rates were very rare in earlier terms, such as the 2016–2021 legislature.
