Marking the end of decades-long journalistic journeys, a series of press outlets in Hồ Chí Minh City (HCMC) published their final editions with farewell messages on and leading up to June 30, 2026.
This mass closure is mandated by Decision No. 863 from the HCMC Party Committee, which entirely dissolves eight press agencies: Người Lao Động, Phụ nữ TP. HCM, Pháp luật TP. HCM, Giáo dục TP. HCM Magazine, Du lịch TP. HCM Magazine, Doanh nhân Sài Gòn Magazine, Kinh tế Sài Gòn Magazine, and Khoa học phổ thông Magazine.
These publications must halt all publishing by June 30 and completely cease operations by Aug. 31.
Furthermore, three other media entities—Tuổi Trẻ (retaining only its online edition), Sài Gòn Giải phóng, and the HCMC Television and Radio Station—will merge to form the new HCMC Press, Radio, and Television Agency.
1. Người Lao Động
Originally founded as Công Nhân Giải Phóng on July 28, 1975, Người Lao Động has operated for nearly 51 years.
The newspaper was built around a people-centered approach, reflecting issues close to workers’ lives, such as employment, while also covering current affairs across economics, education, law, business, and urban affairs.
According to journalist Tô Đình Tuân, the editor-in-chief of Người Lao Động, the spirit of the publication is “to work seriously, live decently, never turn away from the truth and never become indifferent to human suffering.”

2. Pháp luật TP. HCM
Founded on Sept. 17, 1990, Pháp luật TP. HCM (PLO) originated from Bản tin Tư pháp TP. HCM, an internal legal bulletin launched in 1982.
Over its 36 years of operation, it evolved from a specialized legal publication into an influential daily newspaper focused on legal and urban affairs. The PLO established its reputation through strong coverage of policy, legal proceedings, and public security. Furthermore, its sections actively assisted residents in understanding the law, accessing legal procedures, and reporting shortcomings in the implementation of policies.
Known for its critical spirit and rigorous reporting on legally contentious cases, the publication successfully brought essential legal knowledge to the public. Reflecting on this legacy, editor-in-chief Mai Ngọc Phước stated, “If I had to choose one thing to say about Pháp luật TP. HCM, I would choose four words: the emotion of justice.”

3. Kinh tế Sài Gòn Magazine
Publishing its first issue on Jan. 4, 1991, Kinh tế Sài Gòn Magazine (formerly Thời báo Kinh tế Sài Gòn) became one of Việt Nam’s most reputable economic publications, evolving alongside the country’s process of reform and global integration.
Over more than 35 years, the magazine built a strong foundation in policy analysis, macroeconomics, business, investment, trade, finance, real estate, agriculture, and sustainable development. Aimed at policymakers, experts, businesspeople, and researchers, its defining feature was always its in-depth, cautious, and critical writing style.
Beyond its Vietnamese-language publication, the outlet expanded its reach by developing the English-language The Saigon Times Weekly to bring Việt Nam’s economic information to international readers. It also actively fostered industry relationships by organizing numerous forums, events, and programs that connected businesses with policymakers.
On June 25, 2026, Kinh tế Sài Gòn published its final print edition, formally closing more than three decades of a highly respected economic journalism brand.

4. Tuổi Trẻ print editions, including Tuổi Trẻ Daily, Tuổi Trẻ Cuối tháng and Tuổi Trẻ Cười
Founded on Sept. 2, 1975, to serve as the voice of the city’s youth following national reunification, Tuổi Trẻ evolved from a HCMC Youth Union publication into one of Việt Nam’s major journalism brands.
The newspaper developed a dynamic, public-facing identity through its coverage of current affairs, society, education, daily life, culture, sports, and international news.
It stood out for its rigorous investigative reporting, policy criticism, defense of the public interest, and active engagement with young people. Furthermore, Tuổi Trẻ Online was launched amid the industry’s digital transformation and quickly became the country’s second-largest online news platform by readership.
Under the current HCMC press restructuring plan, Tuổi Trẻ will not be dissolved. Instead, the agency will be reorganized to exclusively retain its online edition.

5. Phụ nữ TP. Hồ Chí Minh
Originally launched as Phụ nữ Sài Gòn on May 19, 1975, the newspaper was officially renamed Phụ nữ TP. HCM in 1976. What began as a dedicated publication for women following national reunification gradually evolved into a comprehensive social forum.
The newspaper expanded its coverage well beyond marriage and family to encompass law, economics, culture, education, and health. It consistently championed gender equality and contributed significantly to the protection of women, children, and vulnerable populations. Furthermore, the publication maintained popular advice columns and active dialogues focused on family dynamics and urban life.
Operating for more than 51 years, Phụ nữ TP. HCM established itself as a humane, enduring voice that accompanied the women of the city through decades of social change.
As the publication noted, “The mark of Phụ nữ TP. HCM lies in articles that lit up hope for vulnerable lives, in a tireless journey supporting those seeking justice and in efforts to build homes in remote border areas […].”

6. Doanh nhân Sài Gòn Magazine
Initially launched as a newsletter on Sept. 12, 2001, Doanh nhân Sài Gòn Magazine developed into a newspaper in 2021 before being reorganized into a magazine under the HCMC People’s Committee.
Guided by the motto “With entrepreneurs—For entrepreneurs,” the publication served as a forum for the business community, entrepreneurs, and startups across Hồ Chí Minh City.
Its content primarily focused on management, markets, innovation, business culture, entrepreneur profiles, and corporate social responsibility.
Beyond traditional journalism, the agency actively organized forums, seminars, and networking programs for business leaders. Among its notable initiatives was the Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Digital Library, a project designed to document the contributions of businesspeople to economic and social development.
Ending its operations, Doanh nhân Sài Gòn leaves behind a legacy as a specialized magazine with a distinct identity that consistently supported the city’s private economy.

7. Du lịch TP. HCM Magazine
Du lịch TP. HCM Magazine traces its origins to Người Du Lịch, which was founded in 1994 just as the city’s tourism sector entered a period of reform, and it was later reorganized under the HCMC People’s Committee in 2021.
For over three decades, the publication supported efforts to build the image of Hồ Chí Minh City as a dynamic, open, and culturally rich destination. Focusing its content on destinations, culture, cuisine, festivals, market developments, and stories from travel businesses, the magazine effectively promoted the tourism sector while bridging connections between localities, businesses, and the wider community.
Reflecting a strong dedication to high-quality specialized coverage, many of its works earned recognition at the HCMC Tourism Journalism Awards.
By publishing its final edition on June 30, 2026, Du lịch TP. HCM Magazine closed a 32-year journey, leaving behind a legacy as a specialized media channel for destinations and tourism culture.

8. Giáo dục TP. HCM Magazine
Founded on Aug. 24, 1994, under the name Giáo dục và Sáng tạo, Giáo dục TP. HCM Magazine (formerly Báo Giáo Dục TP. HCM) operated for nearly 32 years as a specialized voice for the city’s education sector. In 2021, the outlet was formally reorganized into a magazine governed by the HCMC People’s Committee.
The publication’s coverage centered on education policy, teaching and learning methodologies, career guidance, school reform, and the daily lives of teachers and students. A notable contribution was its dedication to admissions information and school-choice counseling, actively supporting students and parents through critical transition periods.
The magazine also rigorously reported on pressing issues within the education sector, tackling topics such as curricula, exam pressure, facilities, school ethics, and digital transformation.
As it concludes its operations, Giáo dục TP. HCM Magazine leaves behind a significant mark as an essential information channel closely tied to educational development in the country’s largest city.

9. Khoa học phổ thông Magazine
Established by the HCMC People’s Committee on Aug. 17, 2022, Khoa học phổ thông Magazine was formed through the reorganization of the Khoa học phổ thông newspaper and its subsequent merger with Thời sự Y học Magazine.
While this specific magazine model only operated for a few years, the broader Khoa học phổ thông brand boasts a deep history rooted in the tradition of popularizing scientific knowledge.
The publication primarily focused on applied science, medicine, health, technology, the environment, science education, and daily life. Most notably, it strived to translate complex, specialized concepts into accessible, practical information for the community.
As it ends operations, Khoa học phổ thông Magazine makes a lasting impression as a knowledge-focused media channel that helped bridge the gap between science and everyday life.
